What does ‘pore’ actually refer to on a treatment menu?

It refers to the dilated opening of a pilosebaceous follicle — the channel that carries a hair and the sebaceous gland’s output to the surface. A 2023 review describes visible facial pores in exactly those terms and lists age, sex, genetics, UV exposure, ethnicity and sebum production as the factors associated with how visible they become. Nothing on a menu opens or closes that structure; what is being addressed is the size and the shadow of an opening that is already there. The review pooled 19 clinical trials covering 591 patients and notes that measurement methods differed between trials, which is why its framework is more reliable than any single number inside it.
